Jorrell Salazar
When you think of someone who can uplift an entire community with kindness, leadership, and a touch of magic, you’re thinking of Jorrell (Jei) Salazar—the heart and soul behind the Computer Science Girlies' Discord. Affectionately known as our Fairy Godmother 🧚♀️, Jorrell has been instrumental in building and maintaining the thriving space that keeps our community connected, inspired, and always growing.
As a Community Administrator, Jei is the heart of our server, active every single day to ensure everything runs smoothly. She keeps an eye on the overall vibe, checking in to see who’s being respectful and issuing gentle warnings when needed. Jei directs members to the right channels, ensuring they find the information they need, all while maintaining a positive and inclusive environment.
One of her brilliant daily contributions is the Quest of the Day, where she shares challenges ranging from fun activities to productivity tasks. Whether it’s something for wellness, professional growth, or just a bit of fun, these quests keep the community engaged and motivated. It’s not just about staying active—it’s about reminding the girlies that this space is for both personal and professional development.
In addition to her everyday involvement, Jei hosts events that cater to the diverse interests of the community. From exploring topics like game development to organizing anime movie nights, she ensures there’s always something exciting happening. These events are another way she builds connection and brings everyone together.
Thanks to Jei’s leadership, our Discord community runs smoothly even at 12,000 members, and she’s been instrumental in maintaining the supportive, empowering culture that defines us. Without her dedication, we wouldn’t have the vibrant, thriving community we have today.
But Jei’s dedication to community-building doesn’t stop there. She’s currently a student at the University of Regina, where her many leadership roles are nothing short of impressive.
She serves as Vice President of the Google Developer Student Club, the Communications Lead for the Cybersecurity Club, the Assistance Officer for the University of Regina's Computer Science Students' Society, and the President and Founder of the Women in STEM Club at her university. In all these roles, she is a fierce advocate for diversity and inclusion in tech, ensuring that students—especially those from underrepresented backgrounds—are given the opportunities they need to flourish in STEM.
Jei’s ability to balance her academic responsibilities with her leadership in multiple organizations is a testament to her incredible work ethic and dedication. She has a talent for team leadership, community outreach, and making things ✨cutesy✨, all of which are crucial to the success of the initiatives she leads.
Her passion for supporting women in tech led her to become a part of Computer Science Girlies in July 2023, where she quickly became a vital member of our team. As if all of that isn’t enough, Jei also interned as an Information Technology Intern at K+S Potash Canada, where she handled everything from system deployment to troubleshooting software and hardware issues for over 500 employees. Her technical expertise makes her an invaluable resource not only for our community but for the broader tech world
What truly sets Jei apart, though, is her unwavering belief in the potential of others. Whether she’s organizing events, leading discussions, or just offering a kind word, Jei is always lifting others up. And with her recent involvement with the Evidentia Institute, a prestigious AI/ML research group, it’s clear that she’s just getting started. This partnership is opening doors for her club members to engage in cutting-edge research alongside universities like Stanford and Harvard—and it’s all because of Jei’s vision and determination.
Jei doesn’t just lead—she inspires. And in our community, we’re lucky to have her as our Fairy Godmother, working tirelessly to make sure every one of our 12,000 Computer Science Girlies knows she has a place where she belongs. 🧚♀️
